Whether we are case managers or counselors or pastoral care providers, so many of us find ourselves accompanying people whose lives are changing in some way.  Change is a process, a living and breathing process, that has its own distinct stages. People move through these stages and make decisions about change at their own pace. But sometimes people can get stuck, held back by their own stuff.  And they could use some support. Steve Chisholm, a professor at North Shore Community College, offered a wonderful Conversations presentation on Motivational Interviewing as a method of doing just that.

Motivational Interviewing or “MI” is intended to invite people to enhance their own internal motivation to change and to get beyond some of their own resistance. As Steve says, “MI helps to get people unstuck.” To introduce this model of support, we are offering a 5-minute video in which Steve briefly provides a summary of MI (Short Video Link). And if that video peaks your interest, here is a link to a 20-minute video in which Steve expands on these themes (Full Video Link). We are so grateful to Steve for his work, and we hope that his insights assist you in your work.
